Medicare Supplement (Medigap) in Georgia

A Medigap policy works alongside Original Medicare to pay much of what it leaves to you — deductibles, copays, and coinsurance — and lets you use any provider nationwide that accepts Medicare.

Medicare Supplement insurance — usually called Medigap — is private coverage that pairs with Original Medicare (Parts A and B). Instead of replacing Medicare, it fills the gaps: the deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance you'd otherwise pay yourself. You then add a standalone Part D drug plan for prescriptions.

How Medigap is different from Advantage

A simplified comparison — the right choice depends on your health, doctors, and budget.

Standardized plans

Medigap plans are standardized and sold by letter (for example Plan G or Plan N). The same lettered plan offers the same core benefits no matter which company sells it, so the comparison often comes down to price, the company's reputation, and how it sets rate increases over time. We help you compare apples to apples.

Timing matters. Your Medigap Open Enrollment Period is the six months that begins when you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During that window you have a guaranteed right to buy a Medigap policy regardless of health. Outside it, in most cases insurers can use medical underwriting. If you're approaching 65, talk to us before this window opens.

Who Medigap tends to suit

People who want maximum freedom to choose doctors and hospitals, predictable costs, and coverage that travels with them — and who don't mind paying a monthly premium for that flexibility. It's often worth a close look for Georgians in rural areas or those who split the year between states.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate drug plan with Medigap?

Yes. Medigap does not include prescription coverage, so most people add a standalone Part D plan. We help you pick one around your specific medications.

Can I be turned down for Medigap?

During your six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period (and certain guaranteed-issue situations) you generally cannot be turned down or charged more for health reasons. Outside those windows, insurers in most cases can use medical underwriting.

Is Plan F still available?

Plan F is no longer available to people who became eligible for Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. Plans like G and N are common alternatives. We'll walk through which lettered plans fit you.
